Moon Duck
Night pond maintenance
He inspects the moon because nobody else showed up.

Night Shift
Every evening, Moon Duck clocks in at the north lily bank. He checks the crescent’s reflection for dents, counts fireflies that land out of order, and straightens any lily pad drifting off its mark. The reeds file no complaints. Nobody appointed him, issued a uniform, or explained the work. The moon keeps appearing on schedule, which he considers a strong performance review and adequate reason to return tomorrow.
